Cosmetic Surgery for Men
More men are having cosmetic surgery today than at any other time and they have unique and special concerns. The most common facial procedures requested are eyelid surgery, face and neck lifts, and liposuction beneath the chin. Of course body contouring, treatment of gynecomastia (enlarged breasts) and liposculpture of the abdomen and love handles are also commonly requested.
Cosmetic surgery for men is approached in a unique and different way than we would for our female clients. For instance, from our experience male patients tend to request a higher level of anonymity and a fast track recovery program for accelerated reentry into their work place. Additionally, most male patients prefer a natural, conservative result that does not make them appear feminized or "operated".
For this reason, most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and will require less than one week out of work. We also tailor the postoperative strategy to accelerate the reduction of swelling and bruising. If you would like to learn more about cosmetic surgery specifically tailored for men, please call us for a complimentary consultation.

Eyelid Rejuvenation (Blepharoplasty)
Upper Eyelids
Your eyes receive more attention day in and day out than any other feature, which is why blepharoplasty is such a frequently selected procedure by both men and women. The drooping of upper eyelids can result in a tired, sad look. In extreme cases, there can even be obstruction of vision. The upper blepharoplasty incision is made in the eyelid fold, rendering it nearly invisible, yet dramatically restoring eyelids to a more youthful state. Recovery is usually complete in several days and the procedure can even be performed under local anesthesia alone if desired.
Lower Eyelids
Fat pads and/or dark circles around the lower eyelids can age even a young face. Sagging lower eyelids result from aging as well as genetics, making this procedure popular with men and women of all ages. A surgical procedure called "trans-conjunctival blepharoplasty" employs invisible incisions made inside the lower eyelid. A lower blepharoplasty will reduce the appearance of age and tiredness, removing dark circles and the fat pads, which detract from your appearance. The results are dramatic. With the addition of a gentle surgical technique and herbal remedies to reduce swelling and bruising, our patients usually return to their normal routine within three to four days.
Face & Neck Lifting
Because gravity and the aging process affect individuals at different times, there is no "right time" to start thinking about a face lift. Both men and women who are concerned about improving the signs of facial aging are candidates for the procedure. We begin by tightening the skin, lifting loose jowls, redefining the jawline, and eliminating sagging tissue around the lips and nose. Our focus is on natural lifting techniques that do not change the appearance of our client's facial features. We have also developed a unique peri-operative program utilizing special vitamin compounds, herbals and tissue "glue" which allows our patients to experience minimal swelling and bruising and a shorter recovery time. Face lifts are often performed in combination with a neck lift or other procedures to restore facial appearance to a more youthful, rested state while achieving the most aesthetically pleasing result.
Aging in the midface can accentuate sagging of the lower eyelids and cheeks. Patients will typically remark that their cheekbones appear flattened. Endoscopic midface lifting will rejuvenate this area naturally without the need for artificial implants. This technique is often accompanied by brow lifting and blepharoplasty procedures. It can also be combined with face and neck lifting for complete facial rejuvenation. The incisions are placed behind the hairline and recovery is usually one to two weeks. If midface lifting is something you would like to learn more about, please call us for your complimentary consultation.
Occasionally, we see clients who desire only treatment of the neck or area beneath the chin. For those with good skin elasticity and excess fatty deposits, liposuction under the chin alone may provide a wonderful result. This can be performed in our office under local anesthesia requiring only about a weekend to recover. If loose or excessive skin is noted, a lower face and neck lift may be necessary to produce the most aesthetically pleasing results. We would be happy to discuss the differences in these techniques with you and show you how we are able to help you achieve your goals.
Liposculpture (Liposuction)
The removal of excess accumulations of fat from specific areas of the body is called liposculpture. The most commonly used technique is called tumescent liposuction and it has steadily evolved over the past fifteen years.
Tumescent means that the tissues have been prefilled with saline and dilute epinephrine to reduce bruising and facilitate fat removal. The cannulas, or tubes we use are extremely small enabling us to precisely control and sculpt the tissues. Occasionally, we will incorporate ultrasound energy or the power-assisted technique for extended cases.
The beauty of liposculpture is that we can dramatically change a person's body contour in just a few hours. Areas that previously have not responded to dieting and exercise can simply be recontoured with a very short recovery period. Because of the great results, liposuction has become the most commonly requested procedure in America today. Body Contouring
The ideal male body shape is considered to be trim and athletic-looking, with broad shoulders and chest, a flat abdomen, and a narrow hip-thigh area. However, as men age, areas of fat tend to accumulate around the abdomen, the flanks ("love handles"), the breast area (a condition called gynecomastia), and along the chin and neck.
Men may seek liposuction to remove these fatty areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. In many cases, liposuction alone can effectively correct these problem areas. Men retain their skin elasticity longer than women do, and the areas of fat beneath the skin tend to be firmer and more vascular than those in women. Because of these and other factors, liposuction in men is usually very effective.
Men who have some loose, hanging skin as well as areas of excess fat may opt for a traditional excision procedure (surgical skin removal) in addition to liposuction. We would be happy to discuss the differences in these techniques with you and show you how we are able to help you achieve your goals.
Gynecomastia Repair
Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek words for "women-like breasts." Though this oddly named condition is rarely talked about, it's actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both.
For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, gynecomastia surgery can help. The procedure removes fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.
